MIAMI, FL - The Florida Winter Baseball League (FWBL) has suspended play for the remainder of the 2009 – 2010 season. Although the inaugural season was shortened, the FWBL will continue on with its mission to provide the only US-based winter baseball alternative for professional baseball players. Diamantes Set For Six Game Homestand
After being swept in a three-game series against the Lake County Black Bears this past weekend, the Miami Diamantes (8-7) return home to FIU’s University Park to begin an important six game home stretch. They now trail Lake County (11-4) by three games in the Florida Winter Baseball League standings, and will try and make up ground against the Space Coast Surge (2-13) starting Tuesday night. Following a three-game mid-week series against the Surge, Miami will host the Seminole County Naturals (9-6) for three games – leading up to a four day Thanksgiving holiday break.
Miami has played well at home this season, posting a 7-3 record at University Park. They hosted the Surge last week – coming away with two wins in three games. Diamantes third-baseman Brian Mathews had an outstanding series against Space Coast, finishing 5-for-9 with two home runs, a double, and five runs batted in. Read the rest of this entry »

Miami Wins Series; Takes Share of First Place
MIAMI, FL - For the second straight night, the Miami Diamantes rallied from a 2-0 deficit – defeating the Space Coast Surge 5-2 at University Park. With the win, the Diamantes took two-of-three from the Surge, and are now tied with Lake County for first place in the Florida Winter Baseball League.

Diamantes Take Game Two From Surge
The Miami Diamantes rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, giving them their first lead of the night, and they never looked back en route to their first ever victory over the Space Coast Surge.
With two outs and the game tied 2-2, Tyler Johnson hit a single that dropped right in-between Surge left-fielder Steven Wright and shortstop Jimmy Mojica – scoring Justin Pickett from second base.
