Florida Winter Baseball League’s primary value proposition is that it provides a high visibility showcase for the unseasoned professional baseball player market, catering to not only rookie and Single A level ball players, but also to baseball managers, coaches, scouts, and umpires. What is the FWBL?
The Florida Winter Baseball League (FWBL), headquartered in Miami, Florida, was formed in February, 2008 to establish a unique professional baseball league in the state of Florida. As the name implies, the league will operate in a non-traditional season during the winter months of October-January annually, catering to the Rookie and Single A level professional baseball market. The marketing strategy is to position the Florida Winter Baseball League as the “preferred US alternative” to Latin and Caribbean winter league baseball.
Who owns the teams?
The centerpiece of the FWBL business strategy is to operate league owned franchise teams in the state of Florida. The FWBL will launch with four franchises and expand every other year until reaching a maximum of 12 franchises. By locating the league in Florida, the enterprise capitalizes on the state’s supreme climate and is able to offer baseball during the winter when few other states in the country can. Applying simple laws of economics, the FWBL business strategy simply seeks to match untapped demand with brand new supply. The FWBL central mission is to showcase tomorrow’s major league baseball stars today!
How long is your season?
The FWBL season will comprise of 60 games, with each team enjoying 30 home dates. The post season will consist of a best-of-three championship series between the top two teams in the standings.
Where do you get your players?
Qualified professional baseball players will be recruited for the league by way of a multitude of venues, including national and regional advertising in the baseball media and through creative marketing campaigns. Because most professional players are looking to continue playing in the off-season, there is an abundance of talent available to fill out rosters.
When is opening day?
Opening Day for the FWBL is October 30, 2009 to be hosted in the magic city of Miami, Florida.
